Biden’s CONTROVERSIAL Decision Draws Plenty of Criticism
The White House on Friday defended the choice to have U.S. Marines present at President Biden’s speech in Philadelphia, as they argued their presence was only meant to showcase the respect President Biden has for those in service. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also said that the President wanted to highlight the importance of the military in supporting the country’s democracy.
Marines could be seen stationed behind Biden as he was delivering his speech. This was heavily criticized as the speech mainly related to criticisms of former President Trump and warnings about the MAGA Republicans who are “a threat to this country.”
CNN anchor Brianna Keilar, took to Twitter to criticize the decision to have Marines present as she stated that the military is supposed to be apolitical, and that it is wrong when both the Democrats and the Republicans bring the military in to help support their cause. It may be worth noting that Keilar’s husband is actually in the military, himself.
White House officials have also pushed back against the claims that the speech made was overly political. Jean-Pierre, however, said that the speech was important for protecting the people’s values, democracy, and the rights of those who protect and fight for this country.
The White House spokeswoman also stated that it was not uncommon for military members to be present during speeches as both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush had previously had military members on hand during speeches at different times during their presidency.
Finally, Jean-Pierre said that “Standing up for democracy is not political,” and that Biden’s comments were in support of the country’s values and democracy.
So, what do you think of Biden’s decision to have U.S. Marines present during his speech?
