(FeaturedNews.com) – The White House has unveiled a groundbreaking partnership with major sports leagues and players associations, including the NFL, NBA, and 12 others, to promote physical activity, nutrition, and healthy living.
Under this initiative, the NFL will further its Play 60 campaign, designed to inspire children to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily while educating them on nutrition, as announced by second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
Emhoff also revealed plans for the NBA and Women’s National Basketball Association to develop specialized programs and events aimed at encouraging healthy eating habits and physical fitness among young people, including initiatives scheduled for the NBA All-Star Game later this month.
Furthermore, the National Hockey League will enhance access for children to experience hockey by investing in community initiatives, while Major League Baseball will strengthen its efforts to foster youth involvement in baseball and softball. Additional leagues and players associations, such as Major League Soccer and the PGA Tour, will also play pivotal roles in this collaborative effort.
The announcement comes ahead of Super Bowl weekend, with the NFL set to host an event in Las Vegas as part of its Play 60 initiative, engaging with children in promoting active lifestyles.
Chef José Andrés, co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, underscored the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful change, emphasizing the strength derived from partnerships between professional athletes, chefs, and community health advocates.
“This collaboration we are announcing today is another significant step in the right direction,” Andrés remarked, highlighting the collective efforts aimed at fostering healthier communities.
The initiative aligns with President Biden’s broader strategy to eradicate hunger in the United States by 2030, as outlined in a national strategy unveiled during the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in September 2022. This marks a pivotal moment in leveraging the influence of sports to promote wellness and combat nutritional challenges across the nation.
