Ron DeSantis (R-FL) who is one of the candidates in the Republican presidential primary race, stated that President Joe Biden had “the best impeachment insurance money can buy” in Vice President Kamala Harris. As he alleged, people would always view Biden more favorably when compared to Harris.
DeSantis made this statement during a campaign event on Thursday. As he pointed out when Biden had first selected Harris to be his Vice President many people had questioned the decision and had wondered what had driven her to choose someone who “obviously” had “issues.” However, DeSantis claimed that he kind of understood why Biden had made that choice because in many ways Harris acts as impeachment insurance since no one wants to see Biden step down and have Kamala Harris take over.
DeSantis’s claims come at a time when Republican members of the House of Representatives have introduced impeachment articles against Biden over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) even put through a motion that would fast-track a vote on impeachment. However, her motion was stalled as it was referred to the House Homeland Security and Judiciary committees on Thursday.
DeSantis made the commitment about Harris being “impeachment insurance” while answering a question from a voter that was worried about how the crowded Republican primary could potentially lead to the votes being fractured which could hurt DeSantis’s chances at winning the GOP nomination. However, DeSantis claimed that “the sky is the limit” for his campaign and that he was running to win, not just to get his name out there.
