(FeaturedNews.com) – Tanya Chutkan, a District Court Judge, has been assigned to oversee the trial related to former President Donald Trump.
Attorney Norm Eisen, who had served House Judiciary Committee special counsel during the first impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump, revealed to CNN host Wolf Blitzer that he expected that Chutkan was going to move the trial forward very quickly and that the case would be trialed before the 2024 presidential election. As he argued, this would be a big problem for Trump who is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 presidential election.
On Tuesday, Trump was indicted on four different counts relating to his efforts to remain in the White House following his loss in the 2020 presidential election. This has resulted in the following four charges being filed against Trump: conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, and obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.
Trump has argued that the treatment he is facing by federal prosecutors is similar to the one that opponents of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany faced.
Eisen, during his appearance on CNN, stated that Chutkan is a pillar “of the D.C. bar” and that she is an exceptional trial lawyer. He added that she knew how to get a case moving fast.
Chutkan is an appointee of President Barack Obama and has gained a big reputation for the strict sentencing she has delivered in many cases relating to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack.
