(FeaturedNews.com) – This week, over 500 women in 10 states are participating in the Granny Basketball League, proving that regardless of age one can play the game. The women have referred to their league as a gentle game and have claimed that it was a lot of fun and a good way for them to exercise a little. However, despite their age, these women are more than capable of playing the game.
The Lady Redbirds are back in the game this season seeking to defend their national title. Coach Marj Madison has pointed out that the women were a “little rusty” following a break but they were a very good and fun team.
Women over the age of 50 are able to play in the game which consists of six-on-six games that are moving slower than other games.
Joyce Harris, a player in the games, stated that she always told people who joined that the hardest thing was learning to dial back. As she claimed, the hardest thing was learning the best way to shoot without running. According to the player handbook, there is no running, jumping, or trying to reach over a player in order to block them allowed in this game.
As Harris pointed out, many of these rules were meant to help keep them from getting hurt but there were still occasions where they could get hurt. Two seasons ago Harris had blown out her knee and had to fight back from an injury in order to assist the Redbirds with ending their season on a win.
