(FeaturedNews.com) – On Monday, during an interview, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis claimed that immigration was in part responsible for the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. He proceeded to state that there is a “good bet” that someone who has entered through the U.S.-Mexico border is also going to commit a terrorist act.

The southern border and the immigration policies followed by President Joe Biden have long been a point of debate between the Democrats and the Republicans. The President has generally opted for a more humanitarian approach in handling the immigration issue, however, many Republicans claim that he is to blame for the surge in migrants in the last few years.

However, experts have opposed this perspective noting that there are several different factors that have led to the surge including the current sociopolitical and economic circumstances in many Central American countries which have led to an increased number of migrants looking to travel to the U.S.

While many GOP members have claimed that the surge in immigration was likely going to increase, the number of encounters with individuals who are on the watch list thus far there has not been any such incident.

Republican presidential candidate DeSantis stated during his interview at the Washington Examiner that he believed Biden’s immigration policies have left the country weaker to a possible terrorist attack. He added that there is a good chance that one of the people who have entered the country through the Southern border would choose to commit terrorism. He then added that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were in part caused by the lack of immigration enforcement as five of the hijackers were in the U.S. on overstayed visas.
