(FeaturedNews.com) – Almost half of likely Iowa Republican caucus goers who are supporting former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley have stated that they would prefer to vote for President Joe Biden instead of former President Donald Trump.
The NBC News/ Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll was released only a day before the caucus in Iowa and found that 43 percent of Haley supporters in the state had stated that they would prefer to vote for Biden rather than Trump if the former President won the Republican nomination. Only 23 percent stated that they would back Trump if he won the nomination, while eight percent argued that they would cast their vote in favor of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
In general, only 11 percent of likely Republican caucus goers stated that they would vote for Biden, while 71 percent stated they would back Trump in 2024.
Pollster J. Ann Selzer argued that Haley had consolidated the anti-Trump vote. She further pointed out that Haley does particularly well with all those people who identify as “anti-Trump.”
The poll also asked likely Republican caucus goers how they viewed the legal woes that the former President is facing. Around 74 percent argued that Trump would be able to win the general election despite the legal troubles he is facing, while 23 percent argued that it was almost impossible for Trump to win against Biden. Among Haley’s supporters, only 42 percent stated that Trump would be able to win the general election, while 54 percent stated that he could not.
The NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll had 705 respondents and a margin of error of 3.7 percentage points.
