(FeaturedNews.com) – This past weekend, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) attended the annual Fancy Farm picnic in Kentucky, where he was met by a loud crowd of hecklers who were calling for his retirement during his speech.

McConnell, 81, has previously attended the event 27 times. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (Democrat) and his challenger, AG Daniel Cameron (R), were also in attendance at this latest event, which caused further tension because of the gubernatorial race. The tension could also be felt during McConnell’s speech.

The Senate Minority leader started off his speech by stating that he and his wife, Elaine Chao, the former Transportation Secretary, were excited to be attending this event. They also commented on how strong the Republican team running in Kentucky currently was.

While McConnell was proceeding with his speech people in the crowd started to chant “retire!” This did not stop the Senator from continuing with his points against the Democrats stating that they had been the reason for the record-high inflation, for closing schools, and had been the ones to claim that teachers’ unions knew what was right for children.

Despite McConnell’s attempts the crowd did not stop booing and chanting that he needed to “retire!” Many attendees also chanted “Lost the Senate!” a reference to the 2020 election when the Republicans had lost the Senate majority.

During his speech, McConnell also attacked the state’s governor for his irregular attendance of the event, arguing that he only showed up when he was heading towards Election Day.
