(FeaturedNews.com) – A group of House GOP members are calling for Washington Dulles International Airport to be renamed after former President Donald Trump.

On Friday, the sponsor of the bill Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) argued that during his lifetime the nation had never been in a greater position than it had been during the Trump administration. This is why he argued that the name of the Virginia airport should be changed to “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

He continued by arguing that since the airport was used by millions of international and domestic travelers this was going to be the best symbol of strength and freedom. He added that people would be welcomed on American soil hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport.’

The airport is currently named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who served during the Eisenhower administration. The airport is one of the three major airports in the D.C. area and is located in Virginia.

The bill has been co-sponsored by several Republican Representatives including Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Barry Moore (Ala.), Chuck Fleischmann (Tenn.), Mike Waltz (Fla.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), and Troy Nehls (Texas).

It is not yet clear whether or not the legislation is in part prompted by the fact that Trump is the Republican presumptive nominee in the 2024 presidential election. Still, while it is possible that the legislation could win the necessary support in the House, there is no chance that it will manage to pass through the Senate which is under Democratic control.
