(FeaturedNews.com) – On Tuesday, Matthew McConaughey took to Instagram to announce that he would be funding a plane to travel to Maui and transport emergency aid that is going to help in the island’s recovery following the devastation caused by the wildfires last week.

The wildfires caused the death of 99 people, but that number is expected to continue rising as more searches are conducted through the burned areas. Lahaina, one of the island’s historic towns, was completely destroyed by the wildfires which had spread quickly and had blocked many people from leaving.

The actor in collaboration with Baby2Baby, a charity focused on providing emergency aid and care for children, is going to be funding a plane that is going to contain many of the emergency supplies that are currently necessary for the people of Maui. He added that he was grateful to be able to provide some aid during this time to the people of Maui.

The aid sent by the actor is going to be given to the local charities and survivors who have been assisting in the recovery efforts.

Baby2Baby responded to McConaughey’s post by stating that the help he was providing was going to help get emergency supplies in the hands of children that are in desperate need of them.

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D), stated on Monday that around 25 percent of the Lahaina burned area has been searched and that they are hoping to reach 85 percent by the weekend. Still, as federal disaster leaders have pointed out this is a very tough effort as they are not aware of the exact number of people who have gone missing.
