(FeaturedNews.com) – Youtuber Trevor Daniel Jacob who had staged a plane crash in California just to make a video of him parachuting to safety has received a federal prison sentence for six months.

The 30-year-old has been sentenced for obstructing the investigation by destroying the plane crash debris. The crash occurred on Nov. 24, 2021, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

In June, Jacob pleaded guilty to one count of having destroyed and concealed the debris in an attempt to obstruct the federal investigation. His video from the incident was posted online in December 2021 with the title “I Crashed My Airplane” and showed his plane having an engine failure while he was flying over the Los Padres National Forest in Santa Barbara County. At the time of the accident, Jacob had already been wearing the parachute and was quick to use it while jumping out of the plane with a selfie stick in hand.

Both the crash of the plane and the jump were recorded by the camera in Jacob’s hand and the camera that had been mounted on the tail and wing of the plane. Following his safe landing, Jacob had hiked up to recover the camera footage from the plane according to the Department of Justice.

In the plea agreement, it is stated that Jacob had a sponsorship deal to promote the product of a company in the video and had not intended to properly complete the flight. The Department of Justice noted that Jacob had later informed federal investigators about the crash.
