(FeaturedNews.com) – On Thursday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) reported that his luggage had been stolen from his car in a San Francisco downtown garage where he had parked during a dinner.
Schiff, who is currently running for a seat in the Senate, was in the Bay area for a few days. During that time, his car had been broken into and his bags were stolen from inside. The burglary had resulted in the congressman wearing a hiking vest and gray pants rather than a suit at the dinner. This was while most of the other attendees had been dressed in suits.
Attorney Joe Cotchett had attended the dinner. Schiff thanked him for his attendance and his support in his efforts to take the seat left vacant by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
The Democrat is trying to win the Senate seat against former baseball star Steve Garvey (R). Despite the recent theft, Schiff appeared to be undisturbed and even told the Chronicle that they had taken his bags but they were there to “thank Joe.”
When asked about The Hill regarding the incident, Schiff informed the office that he did not have any further comment while the investigation was occurring. San Francisco has found itself in the spotlight in the last few years due to the increase in crime rates. While violent crimes and property crimes have gone down during the first quarter of 2024 and car burglaries have reduced by 35 percent, the crime rates in the city remain high.
