(FeaturedNews.com) – Former President Barack Obama, alongside his director of national intelligence, James Clapper, both received a briefing in 2016 regarding reports that top Democrat and presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, at the time, was planning on targeting Donald Trump by accusing him of conspiring with Russia. This information was also included in Special Counsel John Durham’s final report following his four year long investigation into the matter.
The report released by Durham was hundreds of pages long and in it, there were details about multiple aspects of his investigation into the beginnings of the FBI’s probe, which examined whether former President Donald Trump and his campaign worked with Russia.
In the report, Durham noted that the FBI did not have enough information at the time of the probe to support the initial investigation. It was further noted that both the FBI and the Department of Justice had completely “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law.”
The special counsel’s office during the investigation also looked into how the federal government had handled the intelligence it received in the summer of 2016, especially regarding the allegations about Clinton’s efforts to present a link between Trump and Russia. This information was included in a separate report.
The intelligence on Clinton’s plan was shared with many top national security officials as well as then-President Barack Obama. On Aug. 3, 2016, only days after the plan was received, then-CIA Director John Brennan met with Obama and then-vice President Joe Biden to brief them on the report.
