(FeaturedNews.com) – In the 2023 fiscal year, close to three million illegal immigrants entered the United States. The Heritage Foundation found that the influx of migrant children has also had an effect on public schools across the country.
There is no reliable way currently to count how many children enrolled in public schools in the state were illegally brought into the country. American taxpayers are paying billions of dollars as a result of the influx in migration.
Since 2021, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has encountered over 470,000 migrant children that entered the country unaccompanied. Many of them are currently enrolled in public schools across the country costing the education system billions of dollars. The law requires all children, regardless of their immigration status, to be allowed to be enrolled in public schools.
Considering the national average spending per student is at $16,345, national education spending is likely costing over $2 billion each year according to the fact sheet by Heritage.
Two of the authors of the Heritage report, Lora Ries and Lindsey Burke, have told Fox News Digital that parents were already concerned about the education their children were receiving because of the “woke curriculum and hyper-sexual content.” They added that parents should not also have to be worried about their children being at the back of the line because of a lack of school resources and teacher attention caused by the influx of immigration.
The report specifically noted that in California 11,121 unaccompanied migrant children were sent to sponsors in the state, considering the average cost per student this would bring the annual cost to around $189 million.
