(FeaturedNews.com) – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is planning on having a large role on the House Oversight Committee this Congress, with some speculating she might even reach its No. 2 Democratic spot.
While this has not yet been confirmed, if Ocasio-Cortez manages to gain that position, she would have a say in going against the Republicans who are planning a wide series of investigations into President Biden, his family and their business dealings, as well as the U.S.-Mexico border crisis.
Ocasio-Cortez on Friday said that while there have been some conversations regarding the topic with other Democratic lawmakers, nothing had yet been finalized.
If Ocasio-Cortez does end up becoming a vice-ranking member, then she will have a bigger role in deciding the Democrats’ messaging and strategy on a panel that currently has as members some of the more far-right and conservative GOP members, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who is Oversight’s current ranking member, is currently undergoing cancer treatment. While Raskin did not make any comments on whether Ocasio-Cortez would gain a more active role in the committee, did mention that he admired her skill and that she would have a great effect on the committee along with all the other new members.
During the previous Congress, Ocasio-Cortez and Raskin had collaborated closely, as Raskin was the chair of the Oversight subpanel, and Ocasio-Cortez was the vice chair. This has led to many theorizing that Ocasio-Cortez would be following in Raskin’s footsteps.
The committee is set to have a meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday.
