(FeaturedNews.com) – On Friday, a Florida police K-9 was called a hero after being part of the efforts to help a 3-year-old boy who had been reported missing by his family at around midday. The authorities were quick to start looking for the toddler after the initial call at around 11:30 a.m. according to the DeLand Police Department.

The massive search predominantly focused on the wooded area that is on the back of the family’s home. Handler Cpl. Damon Clark, along with his K-9 Midnight, who is trained for locating missing people and searching for narcotics, were also called in to help find the lost boy.

Midnight picked up the scent using the blanket of the young child which he then reportedly followed into the wooded area. Clark and Midnight continued to follow the scent trail and ended up finding the boy in the woods. The department noted that the child was unharmed and had been returned to his family.

In a statement, the police congratulated the work of the team and noted that this was always the outcome they were hoping for in such situations.

Midnight first went into service in 2022 and is now one of the police K-9s across the country that has been successful in locating a missing child and helping bring them back together with their family.

Last month in Massachusetts, a different police K-9 by the name of Ibiza had followed the scent of a 12-year-old boy for around two miles in order to locate him in frigid temperatures.
