(FeaturedNews.com) – On Sunday, a group of 12 national news organizations, including FOX News Media, released a joint statement on Sunday in which they urged the two presumptive presidential nominees to commit to participating in the general election debates before the 2024 presidential elections.

In the joint statement, the group pointed out that they were urging former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, who are the presumptive presidential nominees for their respective parties to commit to being a part of the general election debates. They added that this is a tradition that has existed in American democracy for close to 50 years, as the debate has been a part of the general election since 1976.

The news organizations pointed out that the debates are often viewed by millions of Americans who get to understand the candidates better and decide who they should vote for in the election. They added that the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates has been the sponsor of all general election debates for the White House since 1988. As they pointed out, the 2024 debate dates and eligibility criteria have already been announced, but it is too early for an invitation to be extended to candidates. They added however that it is not too early for the two candidates to publicly express support for the debate as well as confirm that they intend to participate in it.

The organization continued by pointing out that if there was one thing that all Americans agreed on during this polarized time it was the stakes of the upcoming election which are very high.
