(FeaturedNews.com) – On Monday, former President Trump made a statement regarding the recently released audio recording where he discussed confidential material after leaving the White House. Trump used his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his belief that the tape, which was leaked by special counsel Jack Smith and allegedly collaborated with the Department of Justice and the FBI, actually proves his innocence. He criticized Smith as “deranged” and accused him of illegally leaking and distorting the tape to falsely incriminate him. Trump argued that the ongoing case against him is a witch hunt aimed at interfering with the upcoming election.
The recording, initially unveiled by CNN, captures a conversation between Trump and a writer and publisher at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey in July 2021. During the two-minute audio clip, Trump discusses a classified Pentagon document outlining potential plans to attack Iran. He emphasizes the document’s highly confidential nature and even jokes that if Hillary Clinton had possessed it with her history of “private emails,” it would have been leaked constantly.
Smith’s indictment against Trump includes 37 charges related to Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents and refers to this recording. While Trump may argue that the tape exonerates him, it actually demonstrates his awareness of the classification system and confirms that the documents in his possession were indeed classified. Trump even mentions how, during his time in office, he would have had the authority to declassify such documents, but acknowledges that this authority no longer exists for him.
