US Officials Dropping Like Flies

(FeaturedNews.com) – Across the country, election officials are leaving their jobs at a much higher rate than ever before. NBC News reported on the new research that shows that thousands of new officials are being put in place in order to oversee the 2024 presidential election.

Since 2020, there has been a change to around 36 percent of local election offices. Following the 2022 midterm elections, there was another exodus of officials, which resulted in 39 percent of jurisdictions having new lead election officials when compared to four years earlier.

These are the highest turnover rates in the last 20 years and are a development that many election officials and experts consider worrisome, especially considering the complexity of these jobs and the lack of margin of error.

Following the 2020 presidential election, when President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the presidential elections had been stolen, election workers faced a lot of scrutiny. Trump is now the presumed nominee for the Republican party and has continued to predict that there will be possible voter fraud in the next election. This has laid the groundwork for him to claim that the next election is stolen if he ends up losing.

According to researchers, the turnover rates might have jumped over the last few years, but were previously in a gradual increase. This suggests that there are also long-standing issues that are leading to many administrators leaving their jobs. Between 2000 and 2004 around 28 percent of officials had left their job, while four years later that rate had gone up to 31 percent.
