(FeaturedNews.com) – Hunter Biden is refusing to cooperate with the congressional committee investigating his foreign business dealings. Many have pointed out that President Joe Biden had previously criticized top Donald Trump allies for refusing to cooperate.

Following one of the Republican’s first hearings following their regaining of the House majority, the GOP-led Oversight and Accountability Committee is looking into Biden’s family foreign business dealings and the extent to which they would have led to Biden being compromised or to any possible threats to national security.

The committee chairman, Representative James Comer, has said that Hunter Biden, the president’s brother James Biden, and Eric Schwerin, a business associate of Biden’s son, could prove to be “critical” to the investigation which is predominantly focused on the role played by President Biden in the family business.

However, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe David Lowell, noted that Hunter Biden refused to cooperate because the case did not have “a legitimate legislative purpose and oversight basis” for the documents requested from Biden. In the letter, Lowell also noted that the Campaign and Congress did not actually have an “absolute and unconstrained investigative power” and as such, they could not pretend to be a “prosecutor.”

Lowell also pointed out that if the committee’s primary focus was to draft legislation for stronger federal ethics laws then so far that attempt of theirs was “thinly veiled at best.”
Finally, Biden’s attorney pointed out that Hunter Biden was a civilian and not a public official. As such he should be treated as a private citizen.
