(FeaturedNews.com) – Several celebrities have been slammed by critics and the Israeli government for sporting what they referred to as a Palestinian “symbol of bloodlust.” The symbol was associated with lynching close to two and a half decades ago.
Celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo, Finneas, and Billie Eilish, wore the symbol at the Academy Awards on Sunday evening as they pushed for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war. However, Israeli government spokesperson Ofir Gendelman took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to slam this decision arguing that the red hand pin that many had worn at the Oscars was a symbol that all Israelis and Palestinians associated with the 2000 lynching of 2 Israelis in a police station. The people responsible for these two murders had used the victims’ blood to drench their hands. He continued to say that this was not something that they supported.
The incident he was referring to occurred in October 2000, when Vadim Nurzhitz and Yossi Avrahami, two IDF reservists had been lynched in the West Bank by a mob after they had incorrectly taken a wrong turn and entered the area that was controlled by Palestinians. Following the release of information about them being at a local police station almost 1,000 Palestinians had gone to the station. The incident was symbolized by one image that became infamous where Aziz Salha, one of the killers had used his bloodied hands from the police station’s window to show the crowd after they started entering the building.
Salha in an interview with the Times of Israel had explained that the Palestinians had been “in a craze to see blood.”
