(FeaturedNews.com) – On Monday, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-California, accidentally praised former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her leadership “when president” during a conversation between the two at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).

The two women were brought together to discuss the state of American democracy and democracy worldwide. Clinton started off the event by stating that the matter of democracy being undermined is not just a problem in America, but rather it is a problem in other countries where the “foundations of democratic governance, of a democratic society,” are being undermined.

She proceeded to point out that there is extensive research that shows that “half the world’s democracies are backsliding.” Clinton then turned to Pelosi asking her about what she viewed as the greatest challenges for democracy right now, as well as what they can do to stop it from backsliding.

Pelosi replied by thanking Clinton for the question before accidentally saying, “but I also appreciate your leadership in this regard when president.” It was in that moment that she caught herself and touched her hand to her chest to say that it was “my hope” that Clinton would be the president.

She then tried to amend her comments by pointing out all the positions that Clinton had held including her time in the Senate, serving as the first lady and more recently, the Secretary of State where she supported America’s democracy.
