(FeaturedNews.com) – A new CBS/YouGov poll from Sunday has shown that supporters of former President Donald Trump have stated that they believe him to be a better information source than their friends, family, and religious leaders.
While former President Donald Trump was recently convicted for the fourth time on 13 counts relating to actions in 2020 in Georgia, that does not appear to have hurt his lead in the 2024 GOP presidential primary race. Trump had previously pled not guilty to charges relating to a hush money payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election, charges connected to his alleged mishandling of classified documents following his exit from the White House in 2021, and federal charges connected to his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
The survey asked Trump supporters to select who they believed was telling the truth when it came to the news and information. Seventy-one percent of voters argued it was Trump, 63 percent said their family and friends, 56 percent other conservative media figures, and finally only 42 percent believed their religious leaders were telling the truth.
The poll included 2,061 U.S. adults and was conducted from August 16-18. The margin of error was three points.
University College London global politics assistant professor Brian Klaas pointed out that Trump voters were more likely to believe Trump over their family and friends, which is why it is necessary for those who want to understand the modern GOP to understand the “authoritarian cult of personality,” as this is what it has turned to.
