(FeaturedNews.com) – Special counsel Jack Smith has subpoenaed Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner to testify in the investigation relating to former President Donald Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack.

According to the New York Times report, these new subpoenas are further evidence that the Department of Justice was intensifying its investigations.

Ivanka Trump, the former president’s first daughter, and Kushner are the two newest additions to the number of people that Smith has subpoenaed in recent weeks. The current list of Trump’s circle to have been subpoenaed includes former Vice President Mike Pence and former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows. All the individuals subpoenaed in the case were particularly close to the former President on Jan. 6, 2021. Reportedly, Ivanka Trump was in the Oval Office with Donald Trump that day, and Kushner was also present in the White House.

Smith’s decision to approach individuals that could be important to the case has marked the start of a latter face in the investigation which is most likely nearing a conclusion. Smith is also handling the probe into the potential mishandling of classified documents retrieved from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

In the past, Trump has tried to block his allies from testifying by claiming executive privilege. Pence has also claimed that he would try and fight Smith’s subpoena.

Reportedly, both Ivanka Trump and Kushner have previously testified in front of the House select committee in charge of investigating the Capitol insurrection.
