(FeaturedNews.com) – A new clip of former Daily Show host Jon Stewart has been going viral. Stewart, a comedian and political commentator who currently hosts “The Problem with Jon Stewart” on Apple TV+, appeared at the War Horse Symposium in Chicago where he interviewed Kathleen Hicks, a deputy secretary for the Department of Defense (DOD).
The interview was broadcasted on C-SPAN. During the discussion on Thursday, Stewart stated that there appeared to be a large discrepancy between the department’s large budget and its soldiers who were often struggling to afford basic necessities. He then proceeded to suggest that the situation was showing evidence of “corruption.”
Stewart stated that the moment they “got out of 20 years of war, the Pentagon got a raise.” He added that what he cannot understand is how a department with $850 billion has soldiers that need to be on food stamps. He added, “To me, that’s f***ing corruption.”
The clip from this exchange between Stewart and Hicks and the conversation has been widely shared by the official C-SPAN Twitter account on Friday. Since its posting, the clip has gone viral amassing more than 1.5 million views within one day, just on the C-SPAN account alone.
The figure Stewart referenced appears to have been taken from the Biden Administration’s fiscal year 2024 DOD budget proposal in March, in which the rough total was $842 billion. The total national defense budget proposed is around $886 billion, with some people claiming that a $1 trillion budget could be within sight soon.
